Stephens broke down her typical diet and favorite foods with Well + Good. She says that she loves to eat salads and eats a lot of vegetables. "The main thing is that I try to eat a lot of roughage. When I was a kid, I didn't like salads, but as I've gotten older, I try to have something green with every meal." Veggies, like salad greens, have a lot of benefits. Elisabeth Moore, a registered dietitian at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, tells Harvard Health, "Most salad greens contain essential dietary nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, and even water. "They also provide fiber, which is beneficial in many areas, including cardiovascular and gastrointestinal health. Greens are also low in calories, but high in nutrients and volume, which can be helpful if you're trying to manage your weight."

Stephens tells Well + Good that she loves to eat fish. She revealed that her typical lunch is a salmon with a salad. "I cook my salmon with lots of lemon juice and add plenty of avocado [to the salad]," she says. "I probably eat that for lunch three to four times a week. Living in Florida, I'm lucky to be able to get fresh fish really easily."

Stephens works out on a regular basis, even when she is traveling. She shared her on the road workout tips with Ebony Magazine. "Working out is my job, so it's not always as fun as just going to the gym and following that with the sauna. I would love that. But, on the road, anything to keep my body moving is good—running on the treadmill or going for a light 30-minute run. I even find things I can do in my hotel room like ab routines, lunges and squats. Things you really don't have to put a lot of thought into but get the blood flowing."

Being a professional tennis player, Stephens spends a lot of time outside. She tells Ebony Magazine that she always makes sure to wear sunscreen for this reason. "I definitely wear sunscreen all the time. I'm just mortified about getting sunburn or even wind burn. I've made it my life's work to make sure I'm always wearing it. Taking care of my skin is very important to me."

Stephens starts her workouts first thing in the morning. She detailed her workout routine in an interview with Shape. "Five days a week, I do a two-hour workout before tennis practice. I start with an hour of movement–ladder, agility, plyometrics–and then do an hour of strength training. Afterward, I play tennis for two hours. From the time I get up, I'm working out and sweating profusely. And I smell!"
